Some lessons on usability

Why every software developer should be required to take a class on user interface design:

I think my favorite is the MSDN search query for WM_SETPOSITION.

My new wallpaper

Finally got around to changing the background image of my new XPS 400 from the ugly default XPS logo, with this. Looks pretty neat in the 24″ widescreen.

My very own TWiki!

I just finished setting up my very own TWiki. I plan to use this to host my own guides, tutorials, and various other documents. I tend to forget how to do things pretty soon after I learn to do them, so I decided to document the steps during the learning process. The site is really meant for my own benefit, although I don’t see why other people can benefit from my mishaps. Enjoy!

Please excuse the mess

Bear with me as I recover from 1and1’s system failure and as I switch blog engines. I’m moving from MovableType to Wordpress, which supports instant posting and private/passworded entries.

1and1 Review

Check out my review of 1and1 Web hosting below:

Dear sir/madam,

We regret to inform you that, owing to a sudden and unforeseen serious operational malfunction in one of our hosting servers on Sunday, the data stored in your webspace has been irretrievably lost. We were able to restore about 98% of the data from the backup of the affected server.

However, unfortunately, due to a double fault your webspace fell within the 2% of data which could not be recovered despite the arduous attempts of our engineers.

We are informing you as quickly as possible to ensure that you can take steps to re-upload all your website data.

1&1 apologizes unreservedly for this error.

To avoid any further technical problems we have replaced the entire hardware in this server to ensure that future problems such as this will be avoided.

If you have any questions about this e-mail, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely

Customer Service
1&1 Internet Inc.

In summary, I don’t recommend them.

j.poll
Should poll choices be kept really short?
Yes, I agree: brevity is, after all, the soul of wit. Poll choices of extreme word-length only confuse and dismay potential voters. Recent research has demonstrated that, without a doubt, a poll that lacks concision, lacks voters.
No.
